Who we are

Residential Energy Audits and Processing (REAP) was founded with one goal: to make energy efficiency simple, accessible, and stress-free for New York homeowners. Based in Upstate New York, our team of certified home energy auditors works directly with NYSERDA to provide accurate audits, handle all required paperwork, and guide homeowners toward smarter, more affordable energy upgrades.

But REAP is more than just an energy audit company — it’s the result of founder Steven Lapage’s 16+ years of hands-on experience helping families make their homes work better. Steve isn’t just an energy expert; he’s a true home advisor — someone who understands every part of a house, from insulation and airflow to pest control, solar, geothermal, and heat pump systems. His goal is to help you make the right decisions for your home — not the most expensive ones.

What sets REAP apart is our honest, no-sales approach. We don’t sell HVAC systems or solar panels or pest control — which means our recommendations are based solely on what’s best for you. Whether you’re looking to lower your bills, increase comfort, or qualify for New York State rebates and incentives, we’ll give you clear, practical advice and connect you with trusted local professionals if you decide to move forward.

At REAP, we believe every homeowner deserves to understand their home — and to feel confident that the improvements they make are worth it.

Beyond energy audits, Steven brings a deep understanding of all aspects of home management — from insulation, airflow, and pest control to solar, geothermal, and heat pump systems. His experience allows him to look at a home as a complete system, helping homeowners prioritize improvements that deliver the best results for their comfort and budget.

Steven’s mission is simple: to make energy efficiency accessible to everyone while giving homeowners honest, practical guidance they can trust — without the pressure of sales or hidden costs. His goal is to help you make the right choices for your home and your family, creating lasting comfort and savings for years to come.

FAQs

  • A home energy audit is a professional assessment of how your home uses energy. Our auditors inspect everything from insulation and air leaks to heating and cooling systems, then provide a detailed report showing where your home is losing energy and how you can improve efficiency.

  • By identifying areas of energy loss and recommending improvements, an audit helps reduce utility bills over time. Many homeowners save hundreds of dollars annually after making suggested upgrades.

  • We work directly with NYSERDA (New York State Energy Research and Development Authority) programs, ensuring homeowners get access to rebates, low-interest financing, and incentives for energy-efficient improvements.

  • Many New York homeowners qualify for rebates or free/low-cost improvements based on income and household size. REAP helps you navigate the paperwork so you don’t miss out on available benefits.

  • One of our certified auditors visits your home, conducts a thorough inspection (including blower door testing, insulation checks, and equipment review), and delivers a full report. We then handle the processing with NYSERDA to simplify the next steps.

  • Most energy audits take 2–4 hours, depending on the size and complexity of your home.

  • Once the audit is finished, you’ll receive a clear report of findings and recommendations. If you choose to move forward with improvements, we handle the paperwork with NYSERDA to secure funding or rebates on your behalf.

  • With years of experience in New York’s energy efficiency programs, REAP combines expert auditing with seamless processing. We don’t just identify problems—we help you access the funding to fix them, making the process simple, affordable, and stress-free.
